چکیده

In this paper, we study the computational aspect of eigenvalue perturbation theory. In previous research, high order perturbation terms were often derived from Taylor series expansion. Computations based on such an approach can be both unstable and highly complicated. We present here with an approach based on the diierential formulation of perturbation theory where the high order perturbation can be naturally obtained. The high order perturbation can be interpreted as a generalized Krylov subspace approximation and its convergence rate can be analyzed accordingly. This approach provides a simple and stable method to compute a few eigenvalues of a slightly modiied system.

Restarted Generalized Second-Order Krylov Subspace Methods for Solving Quadratic Eigenvalue Problems

This article is devoted to the numerical solution of large-scale quadratic eigenvalue problems. Such problems arise in a wide variety of applications, such as the dynamic analysis of structural mechanical systems, acoustic systems, fluid mechanics, and signal processing. We first introduce a generalized second-order Krylov subspace based on a pair of square matrices and two initial vectors and ...

Deflation by Restriction for the Inverse-free Preconditioned Krylov Subspace Method

A deflation by restriction scheme is developed for the inverse-free preconditioned Krylov subspace method for computing a few extreme eigenvalues of the definite symmetric generalized eigenvalue problem Ax = λBx. The convergence theory for the inverse-free preconditioned Krylov subspace method is generalized to include this deflation scheme and numerical examples are presented to demonstrate th...

A New Inexact Inverse Subspace Iteration for Generalized Eigenvalue Problems

In this paper, we represent an inexact inverse subspace iteration method for computing a few eigenpairs of the generalized eigenvalue problem Ax = Bx [Q. Ye and P. Zhang, Inexact inverse subspace iteration for generalized eigenvalue problems, Linear Algebra and its Application, 434 (2011) 1697-1715 ]. In particular, the linear convergence property of the inverse subspace iteration is preserved.

A preconditioner for Krylov subspace method using a sparse direct solver in biochemistry applications

We consider solution of sparse linear systems that arise from generalized eigenvalue problems for molecular orbital calculation of the biochemistry application [2]. This application predicts the reaction and properties of proteins in water molecules through the orbital of molecules indicated by the status of electron distribution. The prediction of the electron distribution requires to obtain a...
